The Gulf Coast Conservation Association (GCCA) was formed in 1977 and dedicated to the preservation and protection of marine animal and plant life on the Gulf Coast. The original meeting of 14 people has grown to a national organization, the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA), of over 100,000 members represented by state organizations from New England to Texas. CCA is the leader in the fight for game fish status for many species of marine finfish. The GCCA (CCA) Stamp Print Series began in 1983 with John Cowan’s redfish design for the first print of the series. The series features a variety of fish from redfish and trout, to tarpon, snook, kingfish, flounder, marlin, Spanish mackerel, yellowfin tuna, sailfish, dolphin, red snapper, and tripletail. Now in its 31st year, the series features print images by great artists such as John Cowan, John Dearman, Herb Booth, Al Barnes, Mike Stidham, Don Ray, Randall Mc Kissick, Stan Meltzoff, Ron Wells, Diane Peebles, and a great rendering of redfish and trout in 2010 by Louisiana artist Randy Mc Govern. The selection of Al Barnes’ design of a tarpon as the 2011 CCA Stamp Print followed by new Texas artist Calvin Carter with his great redfish design for 2012, continues the tradition of presenting the best in sporting art by artists who are also great sportsmen and conservationists.
